Joanne received her Master in Social Work (MSW) from University of Calgary and is registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) and is an approved Clinical Supervisor with the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB).
Joanne has attained Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE) through the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) which grants qualified social workers working in a clinical setting to provide diagnosis within the scope of their knowledge and training. A practicing member who has received an APE may undertake the independent use of standardized diagnostic systems for the purpose of assessing, diagnosing, treating and preventing mental, mood and behavioral disorders and conditions. Within the Canadian context, mental health is a priority for both the provincial and federal governments. With the high demand for access to mental health services, many provinces are struggling to meet the need. Allowing for specialized social workers to diagnose certain mental health conditions may permit a quicker and more efficient response to mental health needs. Social workers who are able to diagnose less complex conditions reduces the demand on the system, thereby ensuring that individuals with complex conditions are able to access the specialist services of physicians, psychologists and psychiatrists sooner.
Joanne is an University Instructor of Family Therapy within the program of Post-Graduate Medical Education, Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan.
